I was in the word this mornin during the wee hours, while I was getting ready for my incredibly selfless volunteers to arrive, and was just reading through the account of the crucifixion and resurrection in Luke and when I came to 23:13-16 I was reminded of something I had noticed last week in my community group that I just thought was a little humorous.
13 Then Pilate called together the leading priests and other religious leaders, along with the people, 14 and he announced his verdict. “You brought this man to me, accusing him of leading a revolt. I have examined him thoroughly on this point in you presence and find him innocent. 15 Herod came to the same conclusion and sent him back to us. Nothing this man has done calls for the death penalty. 16 So I will have him flogged, but then I will release him.“
Wait. What?
I mean, how dare he be accused of something without merit!
Herod: How about we flog him?
Pilate: BRILLIANT!
Anyways, major props go out to the guys at Igniter Media for making such a slammin video for us. I have to admit, I was a little in doubt about how it would fit in with the service, but it was truly one of the more “magical” moments of the morning.
