and all the lights that lead us there are blinding

I didn’t plan on doing much today other than sleep-in and go out to dinner with some friends to celebrate Travis Fitzgerald’s (Fitz) birthday. I’ve been going out way too much lately and have been neglecting the introvert in me by not spending some downtime with myself reading or whatnot. And then it struck me:

God is answering prayer even as I gripe.

I’ve been praying for 19 months for God to bring me some regular friends to hang out with on a weekly basis and just “do life” with. You see, young people in Dallas are the polar opposite of the folks I grew up with. Where I’m from, we’re a very easy-goin’ culture. Most of the time it didn’t really matter what we were doing on a given weekend. What mattered was who we were doing it with. Dallas young adults are all about The Event ™. No one just goes and hangs out. Evites are the standard message bearers, detailing the who’s and what’s of the next Event ™. Everyone I have bonded with over the last year and a half are not from Dallas originally. Dallas people are way too driven. They’re mostly young professionals working their way up through management to get those 6-figure incomes.

And I’ve felt a little lost.

But tonight we hung out at various places: Taco Diner, the Gingerman, and some other bar I can’t remember the name of because the decibel level was over 80. I love just hangin at the Gingerman because it’s got that laid back attitude that encourages just hangin out for hours that I grew to love in Blacksburg and even back home.

Praise God that he’s decided to begin answering my prayers. These last few weeks have completely rejuvenated my life here in Texas. I was growing restless, but now I’m truly excited about continuing to build these relationships God has been leading me into. Take Fitz for example, I met him in Celebrate Recovery and we’ve been buddies ever since.

How’s that for your daily dose of awesome?
